About onions...
The plague when it comes to cooking...this is possibly the foulest raw ingredient used in the art of cooking. It is also one of the most ignored ingredients...ignored by the very people who add them and claim to like their taste. For some reason, people who like onions just don't think about onions and the fact that many people don't like them in their food and much of the time don't even bother to mention or list that this foul substance has been included in the food.
From the earliest of ages it is clear that there are people who just can't stand the taste or consistency of onions. Parents know that most kids hate onions but then why do they then ignore this and actually try and condition their kids to eat onion-laced food? It's similar to the idea of parents bringing up kids in the religion that they happened to be born into and expecting them to accept but never question it. My parents tried to convince me that onions are just fine in my food ("you can hardly taste them when they are cooked") and even to this day my mother will say on the topic of onions that she didn't like them when she was young but acquired a taste for them when she "became an adult". Well, I am an adult and I can't even stand the smell of them! It is not a child/adult taste issue but a fact that some people's chemistry determines that they like onions and that others cannot bear the taste.
(I will continue to elaborate on this thought...)
Warnings!
Possibly the worst type of onion is the scallion or leak (or leek-I call it leak as it leaks it's flavor into all foods unlucky enough to get polluted with them). These are liberally put on foods that are not listed as containing onions and can ruin foods just as well as other types of onions. When ordering foods like salads or Mexican, make sure to say "no onions, scallions or leaks" as cooks and waiters unwittingly ignore this additive.
Another thing to be aware of: I
was ordering in a popular "Mexican" restraunt
and upon requesting that no onions of any sort be
included on my food the waitress told me something that I
was never told before. She said that they include onions
(minced) in the ground meat and they can't make it
without them because they grind up 400 lbs at a time and
add the onions at this time. She then went on to say that
I probably wouldn't even be able to tell that they were
in the meat...
This just begs the question:
THEN WHY EVEN PUT ONIONS IN THE MEAT IF YOU CAN'T TELL
THAT THEY ARE THERE?!
Just another example backing up what I've said about
onion-lovers trying to get onions inside you any way they
can. You need to know what you are eating!
Onions are poison to dogs, do not feed this stuff to them!
Hey, looks at some of the feedback I have gotten about this website:
